Protecting Yourself Online

As Internet usage increases the dangers and risks that come with it also increase; thus, being safe online is extremely important.  Most students, and adults, don't often consider the dangers lurking online.  Minors especially need to be extremely careful about posting their personal information because of the threat of online predators.  Dangers are real on the Internet and should be taken seriously.  Adults can also fall prey to online predators.  Internet users should be cautious and practice Internet safety.

The First Week of Globaloria at BHS

As the second week of Globaloria, now officially Game Design I, begins at BHS I must admit that Week 1 was not great.  As an educator I want to be able to jump right into the curriculum and unfortunately we couldn't do that because of the acceptable use policy, and then on Friday we were without Internet access.  So, needless to say, I felt frustrated and behind.  Today, however, is better.  The class is logged into the wiki, most students have created their blogs, and are now working on their first posting. 

I do hope that everyone in the class has not lost their enthusiasm for our new adventure.  I want everyone to remember that we will have roadblocks and detours but that we will get through it, together.  At the conclusion of this class in January I hope that everyone can say that they have learned something new, enjoyed their time in the class, and that they would recommend it to another student.  I also am very eager to see your game creations because I know that they will be AMAZING.

Personal Finance As A Social Issue

The knowledge area that I will be using for my game is Social Issues with a focus on personal finance. The reason that I would like to create a game on this topic is because many young adults find themselves overwhelmed by financial decisions as they graduate high school and/or college. Often young adults accumulate debt, thus making it difficult for them to regain financial stability. Young adults often do not understand the concept of budgeting and are plagued by credit card debt and low credit scores, which reduce their chances of securing loans in the future for the purchase of a new car or home, etc.

Design Questions

Truthfully, I'm not sure what I need to know at this point because I am feeling overwhelmed by all the information.

My Favorite Beatle: John Lennon

I have never really listened to the Beatles music, although I do know who they are. If I had to pick one Beatle as my favorite (and I do), I guess it would have to be John Lennon. I do enjoy his song Imagine (lyrics). I have been to Strawberry Fields in Central Park, New York City; an area that is dedicated to John Lennon, his music, and his desire for peace.
